Aerospace

The aviation and aerospace sector frequently assumes a leading role in terms of innovative materials and processes today. Methods and materials are tried and tested here before they are adopted by other industries once they have proven themselves. Laser technology is increasingly replacing other processes that have reached their limits. Thanks to the various modules for laser micro-processing equipment, numerous applications are supported.

Carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is among the latest materials used in the aviation and aerospace sector. But metal drill bits are of no use in order to bore holes in this material. CFRP can only be cut at a water pressure of 1000 bar. Ultra-short pulse lasers are suitable for contactless cutting as well as drilling this very strong material.

Thanks to laser micro-processing equipment, surface structures and 3D geometries can also be applied to other materials used in the aviation and aerospace sector, such as titanium.
